It's popular with anime fangirls, but in the great wide world, it's nothing more than gay comics. It's not as accepted outside of anime as people would like. It's not as big as people like to think it is. If they don't like the politics, they'll pull out and then the company loses a whole lot of money. And we're not even thinking about sponsors, which are the life blood of television entertainment. If they put in on Adult Swim, the majority of the AS audience will not watch. If they make it for kids, parents will complain. No self respecting entertainment channel (like Cartoon Network for example which in and of itself caters to a certain group of people) is going to create cartoon shows about gays. Hence yaoi/slash/what have you only appeals to a small group of people. But majority of the western, and Eastern, world have a whole lot of problems with gays and lesbians. I mean, sure there are people who accept homosexuality or at the very least have a to-each-their-own kind of stance on it. Even anime fans differentiate between Eastern and Western animation by calling one anime and the other cartoons.

GAY ANIME YAOI COWBOY TV
Sure there are a animated shows that are for adults, but the majority of animated TV is made for kids. 1) In the western world cartoons are considered to be for children. There are two major issues here that you gotta keep in mind. I guess it's just something America'll have to learn to accept. But for some reason they keep finding reasons to destroy any hint of such content anywhere, like in, somebody mentioned above me, Naruto. Oh my God, a gay super hero? Well then, it must be okay! I don't see where it could be considered a bad idea, personally. Imagine, you're a kid, and you really like this super hero named Gear on this show Static Shock, and then tonight there's an episode where you learn he's homosexual. Static Shock handled a lot of hard-hitting issues that young children could benefit from learning about, like racism. Personally, I think it would have been great if it could have been brought up in the cartoon.
GAY ANIME YAOI COWBOY SERIES
His looks are based off of Anthony Rapp, and Wayne McDuffie says himself that in his oppinion, Richie is gay - but it was not allowed to be brought up in the series because it's an American children's cartoon. In the cartoon Static Shock, Virgil's best friend is a combination of Frieda and Rick, his name being Richie. Richard later in the series came out and admitted that he was homosexual, and it was a whole series of issues in which Virgil has to put aside his discomfort with it and mature as a character. Static, or Virgil, has a large group of friends, his best friend being Frieda and one of his other friends being Richard "Rick" Stone.

The cartoon Static Shock, for example, has long since been canceled - but it was originally based on a comic called 'Static' by Wayne McDuffie. It's all about what the kids will take from it. I mean, we don't exactly see it as a big deal but other people do they see it as a huge deal. How come there aren't any slash cartoons in the Western world yet? Are we not ready for that big step, to see Western animated characters of the same sex kissing on TV? I mean, they could add that on Adult Swim or something, no? (I've never watched Adult Swim, by the way, so if this wouldn't apply, forgive me sweatdrop ) Most gay characters in Western shows are used as parodies or homosexual stereotypes, but is there no North American or European cartoon exploring the love lives of two men? Discuss: - Western yaoi/shounen-ai cartoons? (Or should it be called slash? Unless that is only used for same-sex pairings of live-action shows and movies) Would you watch them? (I know I would! wink ) - Any Western yaoi manga you would like to see converted to animation? (like Dany and Dany's work? I love them! *_*) - Are there any such cartoons I've just never heard about? sweatdrop Yaoi anime is mostly created from existing manga, but they are still done into animation. America and Europe have their own version of yaoi manga, but none yet on TV. blaugh A question on my mind is that Japan has yaoi anime. As it goes, yaoi comics created by Westerners is becoming quite popular, so we can rejoice in the fact that people closer to home are giving us yaoi goodness which we don't have to wait to be translated and imported and licensed! Yay! 4laugh Although Japanese yaoi rules too, of course.
